Elder
The Reverend John Edward Cager serves as Presiding Elder of the Midwest North District of the AME Church. An ordained Itinerant Elder since 1994, Cager began his ministry under Dr. Cecil L. “Chip” Murray at the well-known 1st AME Church (FAME) in Los Angeles, where he directed the Youth ministry and managed some of FAME’s many social justice & social entrepreneurship programs, including the Disneyland Summer Employment Program for youth from south Los Angeles, and the LA Metro taxi voucher program for seniors and the differently abled. Rev. Cager pastored St. Paul Presbyterian Church (Baldwin Hills, CA), St. Stephen AME Church (Los Angeles), Bethel AME (Fontana, CA), 2nd AME (Los Angeles) & Ward AME (Los Angeles).
Reverend Cager is a co-founder of the Faith Community Coalition. He is an adjunct faculty member and Board member at Aldersgate School of Ministry, a board member of Sunnyside Five (which shelters unhoused college students) and a partner at LOGOS Faith Development/LOGOS Sponsor. Cager also served as the President of the Los Angeles Council of Religious Leaders from 2016-2022. He is a recipient of “Pastor of the Year” Awards from the Inland Valley News (2007) & Southern California Conference Lay Organization (2016), and a scholarship recipient of The Mastery Foundation’s School for Transformational Leadership in Ministry.
